How we rank offers
Item.ie is a measurement tool, not a shop. This page explains exactly how prices get onto the site and what does, and does not, move an offer up a list.
How are prices collected and matched?
Item.ie checks Irish retailers' product pages several times a day and records every price we see. Offers for the same product are matched into one page using the product's barcode (EAN) and manufacturer part number first, and verified title matching when a listing carries neither. Listings we cannot verify are held for manual review rather than shown.
How are offers ordered?
Offers on a product page are ordered by price, cheapest first. Nothing moves an offer up the list except its price: we carry no sponsored placements and retailers cannot pay for position.
What counts as a deal?
Deals are measured against prices we recorded ourselves, never against a retailer's crossed-out "was" price. A product qualifies one of two ways: we watched that retailer's own price fall from what they were charging before, or today's cheapest offer sits below the product's 30-day average across every retailer we track. The second one only counts once a product has a real baseline behind it, so a shop joining our list can never look like a price cut.
Does Item.ie take payment?
No. We never take payment. Every purchase is completed on the retailer's own website at the price they display there.
